Many rumors have started surfacing that Apple plans to stop its website publishing iWeb and hosting service MobileMe as soon as the iCloud service is released this fall, as stated in a report by website MacRumors.
The discontinuation of MobileMe arises as Apple has started directing the consumers? online files and information towards the applications environment, allowing them to retain their settings, media apps, and music in sync with numerous other gadgets. The rumors surfaced shortly a week after Apple unveiled details about its new program iCloud at the Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple also said it will end the MobileMe service completely after July 2012. The service iWeb, was first released in January 2006 and allowed users to create and host sites, blogs and podcasts.
The report released by MacRumors contained quotes from an email between an anonymous iWeb/MobileMe user and the CEO of Apple Steve Jobs. In it, the user questioned Jobs whether the launch of iCloud will completely put an end to the MobileMe service. Job replied to the email by simply saying ?yep?, thereby confirming the rumors.
