Hans-Joachim Stuck holds Ross Brawn responsible for Mercedes failures in F1 ? Formula 1 news

Hans-Joachim Stuck, who is a former F1 driver and presently the president of the German Motorsport Federation, has stated that the man responsible for the failures of Mercedes in F1 is the team principal, Ross Brawn, instead of the soon to retire Norbert Haug.

?The failures in F1 are only attributable to Brawn,? Stuck said.??The car was just not fast enough.?McLaren has demonstrated it isn't the Mercedes engine. Even a small team like Force India has enjoyed success with the Mercedes-Benz engines. The departure of Haug is a huge loss for the sport,? he added.??He was not ultimately the one who designed the car. The car is [the responsibility] of team boss Ross Brawn, he should have made it better.?

Haug, who is the president in charge of all Mercedes activity, announced his retirement last week. At first, the reason of the decision was unclear; there were even speculations that there might be a hand of the new non executive chairman, Niki Lauda, but Haug denied all such allegations and stated that his reason for stepping down was the inability of the Mercedes AMG team to achieve any significant success since its formation in 2010. Haug is leaving the company after 22 years of consistent services.

Mercedes performance has remained insignificant over the past three seasons with their only race victory coming this past season in China courtesy of Nico Rosberg. Michael Schumacher had also returned to F1 after his first retirement with a three year deal with Mercedes. However, the seven times world champion also failed to bring any success, mostly dealing with the uncompetitive car provided by the team.

Following Schumacher?s and Haug?s retirement, Mercedes is definitely about to go under a huge change as former McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, joins the team in the 2013 F1 season. Hamilton, who is the 2008 F1 champion, has admitted that race wins will be hard to come by given the condition of the Mercedes car. For his part, Brawn has stated that they are planning to make the car better for both Hamilton and Rosberg.

Hamilton has already made his first visit to the Mercedes factory after a deal with McLaren that allows him to do that before his contract ends with them.
