Hypertension Prevention

Published by Sherry | February 8, 2012 | | 48

Just like other deadly diseases, hypertension usually attacks with little or no warning at all. Because of that, most people die without putting up a fight against this nemesis. That shouldn?t be the case anymore. Learn how to prevent hypertension altogether so that you can save yourself time and money buying expensive medication.?

The phrase ?Watch what you eat? should be your personal motto if you want hypertension to say away from you. Hypertension is often a result of choosing to include the wrong foods such as processed foods that are high in LDL and salt in your diet. Eliminate these food groups totally and replace them with fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables.

Drinking alcohol is not entirely bad for your health. In fact, doctors advise people to drink red wine for better blood circulation. What makes drinking alcohol wrong is when you?re drinking all the time like there?s no tomorrow.

Alcohol promotes weight gain which increases your risk for hypertension. Limit your alcohol consumption to at least once or twice a month.

Along with limiting your alcohol consumption, why not limit smoking or better yet not smoke in the first place? Tobacco smoke contains nicotine, a substance that causes poor blood circulation by causing blood vessels to narrow. You do not only lower your risk for hypertension when you quit smoking, you also save your heart and your lungs.

Some experts claim that food and alcohol can only contribute a little to high blood pressure and that it is stress that we should be aware of. That is not surprising at all since recent studies have proven that stress can actually cause the arteries to constrict. Manage stress by getting enough exercise and rest.

Aside from healthy eating, regular exercise, adequate rest and a smoke and alcohol free lifestyle, hypertension can be prevented or managed through regular visits to the nearest clinic. Having your blood pressure checked regularly will greatly help you detect early signs of other medical conditions aside from hypertension.
