Making a Sweet Splash @ JFK Elementary! :: HeartBeet Cafe

After having kids, leading a healthy lifestyle was not as easy as when it was just about my husband and I.? With 3 kids, we found ourselves going for quick, easy food fixes ? and we all know what they are!? One day, after seeing & feeling some of the impacts of eating unhealthy food, we just said ?no? and regained our focus on creating a healthy lifestyle for the whole family. It?s not easy, but it is CRITICAL! It?s all about creating new routines.? Today, there are healthier, tasty, and inexpensive products for every type of food and drink ? so there are no excuses for NOT making healthier choices. HeartBeet Caf? is focused on teaching kids how to make those healthier, nutritious food and drink choices in a fun and entertaining way.

HeartBeet Cafe visited John F Kennedy Elementary School in East Islip on February 28th to help teach students about the importance of drinking water and avoiding sugary drinks, especially when you are exercising.

After my HeartBeet Cafe ?Making a Sweet Splash? presentation to the 2nd grade, one of the elementary students approached me.? She wanted to tell me that ice cream was good for our teeth?too cute!? I explained to her that, although there may be some ingredients in her ice cream that ?may? be good, there is also a lot of sugar in many ice cream brands.? And that amount of sugar is not always good for our teeth.? I wanted her to go home and sit down with her parents and review the nutrition label and ingredients on her ice cream package ? this will reveal exactly what is in the ice cream?whether good or bad.? HeartBeet Cafe continues to emphasize the importance of looking at nutrition labels, even if the rest of the box claims that the food or drink is healthy, low calorie, low fat, low carb, or no sugar added!!? Keep reading those nutrition labels and ingredients!

After learning all about the importance of water, why we should avoid sugary beverages, and how to create natural zest and flavor to our water by adding fruit, our JFK students were introduced to Hint Water. Hint Water is water with a ?hint? of fruit flavor including watermelon, strawberry kiwi, and blackberry, to name a few. Hint contains no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners, no preservatives, no sugar, and has zero calories.? Hint Water is a fantastic option to all of the unhealthy, sugary beverages out there!
