Video: Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales Raps About Einstein, Obama

Who the hell is Chilly Gonzales? A geek-hop hybrid who can ?smoke weed and read The Economist.? Or so he boasts in this uproariously surreal video medley that lampoons President Barack Obama and Jaws while dropping clever lines like ?I believe the next Einstein will write rhymes? and ?I?ve got a million opinions/And you?ll never get rid of me/I?m like the Palestinians.?

It?s pretty much a laugh riot from front to back, shot through with self-critical internal rhymes that would fit right in at MAD and MTV alike. But to be clear, Gonzales is actually a Canada-born, Paris-based, classically trained musical provocateur named Jason Beck, whose latest genre goof The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales arrives June 7 from Arts & Crafts.

The prodigal pianist has been weirding the pop game since the late ?90s, from fronting the alt-rock band Son and writing a solo concept album about werewolves to collaborating with Peaches, Jane Birkin and Feist. Now he?s spitting gonzo game as a Jewish emcee with mad brains and madder rhymes.

Inspired by Ennio Morricone and Sergei Profokiev, The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales? swelling arrangements were produced by Beck?s brother Christophe Beck, an award-winning composer for television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as well as films The Hangover and Percy Jackson & the Olympians.

Screen the reel above and let us know in the comments section below if Gonzales skews hip-hop strange enough for you. Or if, like he says, he?s just another ?jerk talking about how hard he works.?
