The Golden Rose Stakes ? Denman?s ?Grand Final? in Sydney?s Horse Racing Spring Highlight

Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) August 28, 2009

Boom Sydney colt Denman runs his grand final of the Spring in the million dollar Golden Rose Stakes. Ross Prowd, horse racing and breeding analyst of Progold Thoroughbreds, says that with Denman already having four starts this preparation, the Golden Rose is his aim for this campaign. ?Most of the big names will be heading to Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas and the other big races. Denman has come a long way in his last four starts, but it would be a big task to get him to Melbourne. I think that this is Denman?s Grand Final.?

?Denman is from the powerhouse Darley and Peter Snowden stable, and I think even they would be surprised at just how far he has come. They have some very good 3yo?s that they have always planned to take to the Melbourne Spring Carnival, and Denman?s success has been an added bonus. A win in the Golden Rose Stakes will increase his value tenfold,? said Mr Prowd.

Peter Snowden knows what it is like to train a winner of the Golden Rose having won the race with the good filly, Forensics. Denman will be ridden by Darley?s premier Melbourne based jockey, Keiren McEvoy.

The Golden Rose Stakes is a Group 1 event over 1400m at set weights for three year olds. The Sydney Turf Club and Rosehill Gardens host Sydney horse racing?s only million dollar race of the Spring on Saturday.

The race has attracted a field of fifteen runners including four fillies led by Headway from the Peter Moody stable, and to be ridden by Chris Munce. The field is headed by last season?s Champion 2yo, and Golden Slipper and Magic Millions winner, Phelan Ready. Mr Prowd said ?I think the fillies aren?t really suited to the race, and the fact that very few have won the race would support this. I am really keen to get another look at Phelan Ready this campaign. His run in the Premiere Stakes was very good, and he looks like he now wants at least 1400 to 1600m, so the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas could suit him.?

Jockey Hugh Bowman rides the well fancied San Domenico winner, Shellscrape, who was second in the Up and Coming Stakes at his last start. Hugh Bowman has dominated the Golden Rose Stakes since it was renamed in 2003. He has ridden three winners of the six runnings of the race. Duporth, last year?s winner of the Golden Rose also won the San Domenico. Shellscrape was a good second in the Up And Coming Stakes in his last start behind Rarified who will miss this weekend?s race.

Mr Prowd is prepared to lay Shellscrape. ?While Hugh Bowman is a great asset, Shellscrape will struggle at the 1400m of the Golden Rose.
