ESPN?s Stuart Scott announces Cancer diagnosis on Twitter

ESPN anchor Stuart Scott has revealed on his Twitter feed that he is battling cancer again and about to begin his third reported round of chemotherapy.

Shortly before fronting the 11 pm edition of Sportscenter on Monday January 14th, 47 year old Scott tweeted his diagnosis with cancer followed by a second tweet announcing he is to undergo chemotherapy every two weeks.

Via his Twitter feed Scott also explained he planned to continue working through the chemo sessions, which was also stated by an ESPN spokesperson.

?Blessed by prayers..I?m back in the Fight. C reared its head again. Chemo evry 2 wks but I?ll still work, still work out..still #LIVESTRONG?

Stuart Scott?s battle with cancer began when he was rushed to hospital in 2007 to undergo an emergency appendectomy that revealed appendiceal cancer.

?Cancer sucks, and the effects of chemotherapy suck, and you?re going to feel like **** sometimes,? he said last year. ?But you?re going to feel like that whether you?re lying in bed or going to work or working out, so you might as well go out there and live your life. If you believe you?re not being touched by this, then it?s much better.?

He continued: ?I love my job. Those of us who do what we do, we?re blessed. Being on when you don?t feel well is not the challenge. I love writing. I love creating our shows every night. And by the time it?s time to go on, you?re charged. And when you?re going through something like this, going to work helps. Having that energy helps. Having a positive mindset helps.?

?I?m not going to lie, it?s scary. It?s a very scary thing,? Scott told USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday about a recurrence of cancer. ?The immediate thought is I?m going to die.?

?My immediate thought was my two daughters. I?ve got to be around for them,? he says. ?There have been a lot of people who?ve said I?m courageous. I?m not. I?m scared. I?ve got to be around for them.?

The rare form of cancer was successfully treated with chemotherapy before Scott himself revealed the return of the disease on Twitter in 2011.

THE 260,000 Twitter followers of Scott have retweeted his cancer announcement thousands of times and offered messages of support, which Scott thanked his followers for.

Scott tells Today he works out right after treatments.

?That?s my mental and physical way of standing up to cancer,? says Scott, adding he has done mixed-martial arts the past three years ?more for my mind than my body. It makes me feel like I can battle with something that gets in my way.?

He says the only days of work he misses is ?chemo day.?

The only ESPN work days Scott misses are the chemo Mondays ? although, he says, it?s not like anybody is making him show up at the office.

?I don?t want to sound like a company man, but I swear on my daughters that I?ve never seen or heard of a company that?s as compassionate as ESPN when it comes to something like this,? Scott says. ?I?ve had high-level executives want to bring over food. I?ve had bosses say, ?Dude, stay home.? It?s always about me getting better.?
