I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to test Plaid?s new Martha Stewart glass paint and adhesive silkscreens (available at Michaels). I was given a huge box of glass paints, silkscreens, tools, and total creative freedom to make whatever I wanted. We?ve got Halloween on the brain around here, so I couldn?t help myself from making something a little creepy. Take a look at these spider cloches and check out how easy they are to make?
Transform plain cylinder vases into spooky spider cloches.
Use your cloche to hold anything you like. We chose spiders, but you could also use small pumpkins, photos, leaves, flowers ? whatever catches your eye.
With the flip of a switch, these light up for evening use.
For this project I used:
Plaid Supplies:
- Martha Stewart Crafts?? Metallic Opaque Glass Paint, Black Nickel
- Martha Stewart Crafts? Glass Silkscreen
- Martha Stewart Crafts? Glass Paint Stenciling Tools
Other Supplies:
- Foam paint brush
- Two glass cylinder vases
- Two drawer pulls
- Two battery-operated tea lights
- High strength hot glue
- Removable adhesive putty
- Plastic spiders

For this project I wanted the tops of the cloches to look like they were capped in metal, so I chose to work with Martha Stewart black nickel paint and a delicate filigree-style silkscreen.
Clean and dry vase. Turn vase upside down and apply adhesive silkscreen to the glass at about 1-inch down from the base. Using the foam pouncer (a cylindrical sponge perfect for this project and also by the Martha Stewart Craft brand), dab on a layer of paint. Apply a second coat if necessary.
Remove silkscreen while paint is still wet. Allow to dry and continue the pattern all the way around the circumference of the vase.
Using a brush, paint the base of the vase and take the paint down the sides to meet the stencil line.
This is what your project should look like at this stage.
Glue on a drawer pull.
Attach a battery-operated tea light to the interior base of the vase with removable adhesive putty (available in the same aisle you would find picture hanging supplies).
Place your cloche over a huge plastic spider and creep out your kids.
