This Friday marks the second straight week that Lincoln High School has played without suspended head coach Tom Mihalovich.
As the district's investigation continues, seemingly with no end in sight, fans are growing impatient, and they want answers.
"It's sad. We miss our coach. We want him back," said Lincoln parent Kristy Nachtigal.
On Sept. 4, Des Moines Public Schools officials suspended Mihalovich and two assistant coaches after the family of a former player leveled allegations of excessive disciplinary action. Specifically, they said the sophomore was forced to run after criticizing the varsity squad on social media.
"I think everybody's got heavy hearts, and I think it's unfortunate that the kids have to face an away game without their coach," said Lincoln fan Karen Summy.
"As a player who played under him, I loved him as a coach," said former Lincoln player Casey Linn. "He helped me better myself as a player, and now as an individual, and it's sad not seeing him out there."
Ten days after the suspension, patience in parents and fans is wearing thin.
"I have called the school board a couple times and haven't gotten a straight answer," Nachtigal said. "I think it's crazy somebody can call and complain and the very same day a coach is yanked, but yet a week and a half later, we're still waiting for answers."
"It's very hard not knowing. It's very hard waiting, trying to get answers, and it doesn't seem like anyone wants to talk," Summy said.
Players and parents said they're growing more and more confused and wondering when or if they'll ever get their coach back.
