After making an impression on his last visit to Mudgee, ?Gulliver? ? the world?s biggest guide dog ? will be back soon for all to see.

As part of a whirlwind tour in the Central West next week, ?Gulliver? will be leading a road show campaign known as ?NDIS: A Vision for All?.?

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT is seeking 10,000 signatures to ensure the National Disability Insurance Scheme doesn?t overlook people with vision impairment.

The organisation is calling on the government to ensure the NDIS funds orientation and mobility services, including canes and guide dogs. These enable people whose functional mobility is affected by vision loss to be independent.

CEO of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, Dr Graeme White, said vision loss was a challenging disability and it?s on the rise.

?Without these services, people with vision loss become disconnected from their community, dependent on others to get around and are at a higher risk of accidents and depression,? he said.

?With the number of NSW and ACT residents aged over 40 with vision loss projected to reach 100,000 by 2020, NDIS funding will be critical to enabling us to meet growing demand for our vital services.?

Over the past year orientation and mobility instructors from Guide Dogs NSW/ACT have provided over 500 training programs to enhance the independence of people across the Central West who have trouble getting around due to vision loss.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT plans to present its campaign signatures to the Federal Minister for Disability Reform, Jenny Macklin, NSW Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, and ACT Minister for Community Services, Joy Burch, on International White Cane Day, Monday, October 15.?

The world?s biggest guide dog will be in Bathurst on Monday before heading to Orange (Tuesday) and Dubbo (Wednesday).

Mudgee residents are urged to support the campaign when Gulliver?s tour stops in town outside St George Bank at 32 Church Street, from 9am to 1pm on Thursday, September 27.?

Residents can also sign up online at www.visionloss.org.au or call 1800 804 805.
